When A Family Comes Off The Interest List, Does Your Website Win The Call?

The moment you are actually chosen

Families of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities often wait years on a Texas waiver interest list. When their name finally comes up, the local authority hands them a list of providers in their area and asks them to choose. That list might have a dozen names on it. The family has never heard of most of them. They will do what anyone does: search each name on a phone and see what comes back.

For most providers on that list, what comes back is a Facebook page last updated two years ago, or a website with a broken mobile layout and no photos of the actual homes. The provider who looks real, current and easy to reach gets the call. Often it is the only call the family makes.

What a family needs to see in ninety seconds

  • Which programs you run, in plain words: residential homes, host home and companion care, day habilitation, supported employment, respite.
  • Where your homes and day programs are. A county name is not enough, they want to know it is reachable.
  • Photos of the real houses, the real rooms, the real day program space. Not stock images.
  • Who is on your team, and how long they have been there.
  • One clear way to reach you that someone will actually answer.

Write for the case manager too

The family is not the only reader. Service coordinators and case managers at the local authority look at provider sites constantly, and they notice who makes their job easier. A short page explaining how you handle intake, what a transition looks like, and who to call puts you in the small group of providers they mention by name when a family asks for guidance.

The other reason to build it: staffing

Every unstaffed home costs you the daily rate on every bed in it. The same website that wins the family's call should be recruiting direct support professionals and host home providers every day, with a mobile apply form that takes a minute and a page that explains honestly what the work is and what it pays. Most providers have neither, and it shows up in their occupancy.

On the day a family is choosing, your website is your interview. Most providers do not show up for it.
